Episode Summary:
The Demon Slayer  Season 4 Episode 2 opens where the previous one left off. Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s Kasugai crow arrives at Lady Tamayo’s window unexpectedly, rendering her immobile with shock. As she processes the situation and ensures Yushiro’s safety, the crow conveys a message from Kagaya Ubuyashiki, requesting Tamayo’s assistance with Shinobu Kocho’s research following Nezuko’s successful conquest of the sun.

Tamayo is initially distrustful of Ubuyashiki’s intentions due to her demon nature. However, the Kasugai crow assures her that Ubuyashiki seeks her help to defeat Muzan Kibutsuji. Despite Yushiro’s urgency to relocate for safety, Tamayo decides they should move to the Ubuyashiki Mansion, indicating her acceptance of Ubuyashiki’s proposal and her intent to aid the Demon Slayer Corps in their mission to eliminate Muzan.

Giyu’s Past Revealed:
Meanwhile in Demon Slayer  Season 4 Episode 2, Tanjiro receives a letter from Kagaya Ubuyashiki, who, despite his debilitating illness, requests Tanjiro’s help in persuading Giyu Tomioka to participate in the Hashira training. Ubuyashiki emphasizes the need for persistence with the reclusive Water Hashira.

Despite his recent injuries, Tanjiro sets off from the Butterfly Mansion, seeking advice from Aoi Kanzaki on how to convince someone who feels isolated. Although Aoi doesn’t provide a direct answer, she prepares onigiri for Tanjiro to share with Giyu.

Upon reaching Giyu’s house, Tanjiro repeatedly calls out, but receives no response. Entering the house, Tanjiro eagerly expresses his desire to train under Giyu, but is met with rejection. Giyu criticizes Tanjiro for not mastering the Water Breathing technique and expresses disappointment that Tanjiro has not succeeded him as the Water Hashira. Confused, Tanjiro reminds Giyu of his current Hashira status, but Giyu remains reticent and asks him to leave. Persisting, Tanjiro continues to shadow Giyu until the latter, annoyed, decides to open up.

Giyu recounts his training days with Sabito under Urokodaki when they were thirteen. During the Demon Slayer’s Final Selection, Sabito saved Giyu from a demon but lost his life, while Giyu survived and passed the test. This survivor’s guilt haunts Giyu, making him feel unworthy of his Hashira title.

Emotional Connection:
in this Demon Slayer  Season 4 Episode 2 Tanjiro empathizes with Giyu, recalling his own guilt and feelings of inadequacy after Rengoku’s sacrifice during the Mugen Train incident.
