Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc Premieres

“Demon Slayer Season 4 Episode 1 Hashira Training Arc” premiered on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at 11:45 a.m. PDT. Demon Slayer Season 4 Episode 1 , “To Defeat Muzan Kibutsuji,” is 49 minutes long and sets the stage for the new season. Season 4 begins with the Serpent Hashira, Obanai Iguro, and the Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa, embarking on a mission with two other demon slayers.

The episode starts with the four swordsmen tracking a demon who has kidnapped a girl. As they fight their way into an abandoned mansion to rescue her, they become overwhelmed by the seemingly endless number of demons. While Iguro and Sanemi climb onto the roof, they catch a glimpse of the Infinity Fortress, which quickly vanishes along with all the demons, leaving them perplexed.

Elsewhere, Kanao returns from a mission, and Shinobu Kocho updates her on the Swordsmith Village incident. The Insect Hashira explains that Muzan Kibutsuji is likely aware of Nezuko because she is the first demon to conquer the sun. She also informs Kanao that the Hashira must attend an emergency meeting.

The scene shifts to Tanjiro speaking with a Kakushi, who informs him that the Swordsmith Village is being restored and that the Demon Slayer Corps has designated empty villages for emergencies.

At the Ubuyashiki estate, the Hashira gather and meet with Amane, Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s wife. To their surprise, she informs them that Kagaya can no longer appear before the demon slayers due to his deteriorating condition.

Amane then questions Muichiro Tokito (the Mist Hashira) and Mitsuri Kanroji (the Love Hashira) about the unique marks that appeared on them while fighting the Upper-Rank Demons. She explains that a mark similar to demonic patterns used to appear on certain swordsmen during the Sengoku period, one of whom almost defeated Muzan Kibutsuji.

During the meeting, Amane explains that little is known about the mark. According to the notes of one of the first Breathing swordsmen, when someone’s mark appears, those around him also manifest similar designs on their faces. She reveals that Tanjiro is the only person in the present era to bear the mark. However, he cannot explain how he got it, nor can Kanroji. Tokito shares his experience, explaining that the mark appeared during his battle against the Upper Moon 5 demon, Gyokko. Despite being poisoned, Tokito regained his memories, felt a range of emotions, and his heart rate and temperature spiked. He believes the mark appeared because he chose to fight rather than give up.

The meeting concludes with the Hashira prioritizing the awakening of the mark. Amane hints at a curse associated with the mark, which remains unrevealed.

After the meeting, Giyu Tomioka leaves, despite others trying to stop him. When things get tense, the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, intervenes to discuss a proposal.

At the Butterfly Mansion, Zenitsu returns from his mission to a warm welcome from Aoi, Naho, Kiyo, and Sumi. He proudly shares his mission details, only to be stunned when he sees Nezuko outside during the day. However, he is heartbroken when she calls out Inosuke’s name instead of his. The Kakushi informs Tanjiro that Inosuke has been training Nezuko to recognize his name.

Later, Haganezuka arrives to present Tanjiro with a new sword, which features Rengoku’s sword guard and is forged from special metal. The sword bears the characters for “Destroy,” a symbol of the swordsmith’s intention to eradicate all demons. Only Hashira swords have “Destroyer of Demons” engraved on them.

As Haganezuka departs, the episode reveals that Genya and Tanjiro have arrived at the Butterfly Mansion. Inosuke makes a noisy entrance to announce the start of group strength training.

Meanwhile, the Hashira strategize about the Hashira training. Gyomei notes a decrease in demon appearances since the Swordsmith Village incident and proposes training for all members of the Demon Slayer Corps to prepare for the worst-case scenario. While most Hashira agree, Giyu Tomioka opts out.

Although Tengen Uzui is no longer part of the Corps, he trains the demon slayers, focusing on their stamina. The trainees progress through different training levels under the Hashira. Towards the episode’s end, a letter reveals to Tanjiro that Tomioka will not participate in the training.

A significant development occurs when Ubuyashiki’s messenger crow approaches Tamayo, requesting her presence at the Demon Slayer headquarters. It is revealed that Kagaya Ubuyashiki seeks Tamayo’s assistance in Kocho’s research to aid in their battle against Muzan Kibutsuji.
