Horimiya Anime Season 1 Explanation

“Horimiya anime” is a delightful romantic comedy anime that revolves around the lives of high school students as they navigate friendships, love, and self-discovery. The story centers on the unlikely relationship between Kyoko Hori, a popular and outgoing girl at school, and Izumi Miyamura, a quiet and unassuming classmate with a hidden side.

Episode 1: A Tiny Happenstance

Kyoko Hori is a popular girl in her class but she dresses plainly at home and takes care of the housework. One day, Izumi Miyamura, who is a loner in the class, discovers her secret when he escorts her younger brother, Sota, home because of a nosebleed. Hori finds out that Miyamura wears piercings and has tattoos outside of school, but they both decide to keep each other’s secrets.

Episode 2: You Wear More Than One Face

in Horimiya anime While talking to her mother, Hori realizes that she doesn’t know Miyamura’s first name. She goes through several schemes to learn it indirectly until Miyamura finally reveals it to her. At school, the student council asks Hori for help with their paperwork. They later accuse her of losing the budget report. However, Miyamura proves her innocence by revealing that one of the members, Remi, had accidentally dropped it when she bumped into him (as well as headbutting the president, Sengoku).

Episode 3: That’s Why It’s Okay

Miyamura is reminded of his lonely past at school, where he always felt alone. However, everything changes when Hori, Ishikawa, and Yoshikawa form a group with him for a class project. Miyamura realizes that he has made some friends. He confides in Ishikawa, who confirms their friendship. The next day, Remi jokingly suggests to Hori that she should date Miyamura. Hori becomes defensive over him, and after school, they compare their hands. Hori almost confesses her feelings to Miyamura.

Episode 4: Everybody Loves Somebody

As summer arrives, Sakura falls in love with Ishikawa after he helps her pick up some papers she had scattered. Meanwhile, Hori gives Miyamura some ice cream, which he shares with Ishikawa and Sengoku. Later, Hori and Miyamura lose a game among their friends and are punished for it by having to buy drinks for everyone. Unfortunately, Ishikawa misunderstands what had happened between Hori and Miyamura.

After school, Hori finds out that Miyamura only gets flustered and abrasive when talking to Shindo, his middle school classmate. While out in town, Hori and Ishikawa run into Shindo. Later on, Hori falls ill, and Miyamura takes care of her, learning more about the loneliness she experiences in the process. Miyamura ends up confessing his feelings for Hori.

Episode 5: I Can’t Say It Out Loud

Sota tells Hori that he saw Miyamura with another girl, not realizing that the girl is Shindo’s girlfriend, Chika. This upsets Hori, causing her to avoid Miyamura. Eventually, Hori throws her textbook at Miyamura. However, when Miyamura returns the textbook to her home, they both apologize to each other. Hori allows Miyamura to explain, but their conversation is interrupted by her father, Kyosuke. Hori confirms to her father that Miyamura is her boyfriend, and they start dating. Ishikawa is upset by this news, but he assures Miyamura that they are still friends.

Episode 6: This Summer’s Going to Be a Hot One

Hori and Miyamura are secretly dating but their relationship becomes known when Miyamura stays over at Hori’s house. To protect Hori’s reputation, Miyamura changes his appearance by cutting his hair and removing his glasses. Miyamura kisses Hori for the first time while sharing candy with her after school. His new look attracts the attention of other girls, including Sawada, who sees him as a romantic rival for Hori.

Episode 7: You’re Here, I’m Here

Ishikawa lends his jersey to Sakura, who bakes cookies for him. Yuki seeks Miyamura’s help to bake cupcakes, but they burn. Ishikawa encourages Yuki to try again. Miyamura attends a funeral for five days, and Hori anxiously waits for his return. They embrace when he finally comes back. Hori tries to scare Miyamura during a horror movie but ends up scaring him instead.

Episode 8: The Truth Deception Reveals

In the story, Miyamura has a dream where he meets his younger self and assures himself that he will meet his friends someday. Remi remembers her relationship with Sengoku on the day they met and when Sengoku confessed his feelings to her. Miyamura discovers Hori’s masochistic side, as she constantly persuades him to hit or yell at her, which he forces himself to do despite feeling uncomfortable. Meanwhile, Yoshikawa is asked out by Akane Yanagi, a student from another class.

Episode 9: It’s Hard, but Not Impossible

Miyamura, a boy who used to be bullied by Tanihara, an old classmate from middle school, meets him again. Tanihara proceeds to talk down to him until he and his friend are beaten up by Hori, another classmate. Hori tries to pressure Miyamura to be rougher with her, which he reluctantly gives in to, accidentally scaring Tanihara and his friends. Meanwhile, Miyamura meets Mizouchi, who initially comes across as cold due to having a crush on Hori, but the two start getting closer together.

Tanihara has a dream where he reflects on an incident from the past when he blamed Miyamura for the death of their school’s rabbits. He visits Miyamura at his cake shop, where he’s warmly received and promises to return; he internally apologizes for his past actions. Later, Hori and Miyamura reflect on their middle school days. Miyamura is now able to look back on it more fondly after getting closer to everyone.

Episode 10: Until the Snow Melts

Hori is feeling jealous of how close Miyamura is with Tanihara, Shindo, and the other guys. Meanwhile, Sakura is devastated to learn that Ishikawa and Yuki are supposedly dating. Yuki, on the other hand, is unsure how to be honest about her feelings for him and is retreating into herself. Ishikawa tells Yuki about Sakura confessing her feelings to him, but he doesn’t ask for an answer. Instead, he cheers Yuki up by talking about all the things he loves about snow (“yuki”) and how excited they both are for it to arrive. Later on, Sengoku consoles Sakura as she grieves over her rejection.

Episode 11: It May Seem Like Hate

After learning that Iura has a sister, the group of boys try to form a closer bond with Yanagi. Miyamura, initially worried about losing his relationship with the guys, also develops a close bond with Yanagi. Sawada starts to feel more comfortable around the boys, but she still struggles to be around the loud and annoying Iura. However, after he helps her one day (unaware he’s sick), she becomes worried that he hates her. But the next day, he is back to his usual self. Iura’s sister, Motoko, feels discouraged after her teacher tells her she won’t be able to get into her high school of choice.

Episode 12: Hitherto, and Forevermore

Hori invites Miyamura to Christmas dinner, but he declines due to work. Toru talks to Sengoku and Iura about his feelings for Yuki. Yuki visits Toru’s house, but they get nervous when teased by the caretaker. Sengoku is scared to visit Remi because of bugs. Hori thinks about their future. On Christmas, every character enjoys with family. Miyamura briefly visits Hori’s house. While walking, Hori expresses her desire to stay with him after graduation. Miyamura suggests they get married, and they ponder their future together on New Year’s.

Episode 13: I Would Gift You the Sky

Students are clearing out their lockers as the school year comes to an end. Remi wants to go on a trip with her friends, but worries they might leave her behind. Miyamura reflects on how different his school life would have been if he hadn’t met Hori. During the graduation ceremony, Miyamura accidentally sneezes, causing a commotion. Later, he talks to his past self and declares that he won’t turn a blind eye to his former self anymore. Sawada says goodbye to Hori, while Sakura thanks Ishikawa.
