“Parasyte: The Maxim” (Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu) is a 24-episode anime adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga series. The show combines elements of horror, science fiction, and psychological thriller to create a gripping narrative that explores themes of humanity, survival, and the symbiotic relationship between humans and parasites. The story revolves around a high school student named Shinichi Izumi and his struggle to coexist with a parasitic organism named Migi.

The story begins with the arrival of mysterious parasitic creatures that invade Earth. These parasites burrow into the brains of their human hosts, taking control of their bodies and turning them into grotesque, human-eating monsters. However, one parasite fails to take over its host completely. Instead of reaching Shinichi’s brain, it gets stuck in his right hand. This parasite, later named Migi (Japanese for “right”), and Shinichi form an uneasy alliance to survive.

Episode 1: “Metamorphosis”
The series opens with a mysterious organism taking over a human host by entering through the ear. Meanwhile, high school student Shinichi Izumi is attacked by a parasite, but it fails to reach his brain and instead takes over his right hand. Naming the parasite Migi, Shinichi begins to understand the gravity of the situation as other, fully-formed parasites start attacking humans.

Episode 2: “Demon in the Flesh”
Shinichi and Migi start forming an uneasy alliance to survive. They encounter another parasite who has completely taken over a human and now exhibits monstrous behavior. Migi teaches Shinichi how to use his abilities to defend himself, leading to their first battle against another parasite.
