Kaiju No. 8 Season 1: Episode Summaries

The series chronicles the story of Kafka Hibino, a young man with aspirations of joining the Defense Force to fight alongside his childhood friend Mina Ashiro. However, his dreams are shattered when he fails the entrance exam. But everything changes when he meets Reno Ichikawa, a young part-time worker who reignites his desire to join the Defense Force. Soon after, a parasitic creature enters Kafka’s body, granting him the ability to transform into a kaiju. Taking on the code name “Kaiju No. 8,” he decides to apply for the Defense Force while concealing his newfound ability to transform into a kaiju.

EPISODE 1 – “The Man Who Became a Kaiju”

Kafka Hibino works as a cleaner for the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. After a chance encounter with a smaller kaiju, he decides to try joining the Defense Force again. However, a parasitic kaiju enters Kafka’s body, turning him into a human-kaiju hybrid, forcing him and his coworker, Reno, to flee from the hospital.

EPISODE 2 – “The Kaiju Who Defeats Kaiju”

A flashback reveals Kikoru’s motivation to be perfect due to her mother’s death by a kaiju and her father’s high expectations. Kafka transforms and saves Kikoru, revealing his fortitude level to be 9.8. Mina and Soshiro suspect a connection to the Trichonephila Kafka killed months earlier. Kikoru lies about killing the revived honju to protect Kafka. The humanoid kaiju changes its appearance to a human kaiju cleaner.

EPISODE 5 – “Joining Up!”
