Konosuba Season 3 on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, bringing fans the long-awaited continuation of the series following the 2019 canon film. The premiere episode returns to its comedic roots, delivering non-stop laughs and chaos that Konosuba is known for, while also setting up intriguing future plot developments, particularly with the mysterious summons for Kazuma.
Kazuma’s Summons and a Date with Royalty
The episode begins with Kazuma Sato writing a letter to his parents, recounting the adventures and events of the first two seasons and the movie. Suddenly, Kazuma is approached by several women at the adventurer’s guild, all asking him to marry them, including Sylvia, who was thought to be dead after the film’s events. This scene is revealed to be a dream when Kazuma wakes up screaming.
The next morning, Darkness, Aqua, and Megumin are discussing alcohol they received from the Crimson Demon Village. Darkness mentions she discarded the empty bottles, prompting Aqua to ask Kazuma if he drank the contents. Kazuma, lost in thought, ignores her, fixated on the weather outside.
Kazuma’s sudden scream brings him back to reality, and he admits he has no idea what Aqua was talking about. The group then heads to the adventurer’s guild to celebrate their reward from the Crimson Demon Village with food and drink. During this time, Kazuma muses about joining “the faith,” reflecting on how he once believed his life’s “springtime” had come during the events of the canon film, only to be disillusioned by the traumatic experiences.
Aqua tries to console Kazuma with comforting words from the Axis faith, which he quickly rejects. Kazuma then announces his intention to become a monk and leave adventuring behind, seeking guidance from the guild receptionist, whom he secretly harbors a crush on.
As he leaves, revealing his crush on the receptionist, Darkness, Aqua, and Megumin follow him. Darkness and Aqua debate whether Kazuma is serious about his new path, while Megumin recalls how Kazuma disregarded her request to invest her skill points elsewhere, resulting in what was supposed to be her final explosion spell.
Kazuma teases Megumin, prompting her to launch an explosion spell at a nearby mountain. Her newfound power causes the explosion to be city-sized. Later that night, Kazuma insists no one will carry Megumin the next day since she used her magic unnecessarily. He volunteers to keep watch, sharing stories of his video game adventures, which Darkness and Megumin initially believe until Aqua exposes the truth.
Darkness and Aqua head to bed while Kazuma and Megumin discuss if he ever considered returning home. Megumin asks what his parents would think of him joining the faith and expresses a desire for things to stay the same between them, holding his hand. Kazuma wonders if she wants him to make a move, but Megumin falls asleep before he can respond.
The next day, the group encounters an injured stranger, whom Kazuma identifies as a monster in disguise due to his enemy detection skills. Despite the stranger’s convincing act and the party’s sympathy, Kazuma remains suspicious and eventually discovers the monster’s true nature.
Kazuma contemplates becoming a monk to bring food to the “girl” daily, but secretly watches as the monster practices the monologue it used to deceive them. Furious, he confronts the monster before returning to his friends, declaring he’s no longer interested in becoming a monk.
Aqua notices a mallet Kazuma picked up from the monster’s last victim, which spills gold coins when they fight over it. Elated by their newfound wealth, the group heads home, encountering Chris, who comments on their good mood. However, after she leaves, they discover Chris has stolen the magic mallet, much to Kazuma’s dismay.
The episode ends with Hagen, a butler from Darkness’ family, visiting their home. He informs Darkness that her family is at risk of losing their standing and hands her a letter that leaves her shocked. The final reveal is that Kazuma has been summoned to a dinner with Iris, the first princess of the Kingdom of Belzerg, which greatly unsettles Darkness.
